Nona Jones was appointed Community Relations Director of Gainesville Regional Utilities in April 2008. She is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with GRU’s customer groups and various community organizations, as well as handling GRU’s Government Relations, including coordinating GRU’s involvement in legislative and regulatory advocacy and interfacing with elected officials and governmental agencies to promote a positive working relationship.
During her time with the company, she developed and implemented GRU’s first Community and Government Relations Strategy. She has also developed and implemented a number of signature outreach programs including the Community Energy Fair, Annual Community Meeting, Faith EmPOWERment Month, GRU in the Neighborhood, and the Brighter Tomorrow Scholarship Program.
She currently serves on the PACE Center for Girls Board of Trustees, AvMed Health Plans Community Advisory Board, Alachua County Public Schools Foundation Board, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce Board, United Way of North Central Florida Board, American Cancer Society Board, the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council Board, and the East Gainesville Development Corporation Board of Directors.
Nona was honored as one of Gainesville’s “13 under 30” community leaders by Home Magazine and a “Woman Who Makes a Difference” by the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council. She has also been recognized as a University of Florida Outstanding Young Alumnus, Lady Gators Keeper of the Dream, and an Ebony Appreciation Awards Pioneer.
Nona earned a Bachelor’s degree and and Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida. She is married to Timothy L. Jones, Sr., and the couple has a son.
